Bringing the Future Into Focus, and Our Office
In September, 2015, J.G. Wentworth proudly announced our partnership and journey with Cristo Rey— a national network of college preparatory schools for inner-city students.
The innovative nature of the school’s mission and philosophy is a natural fit for J.G. Wentworth. One of the cornerstones of Cristo Rey’s educational model is a work-study program where students earn a portion of their tuition through real-world work experience at participating organizations.
At the outset, it was easy to see how J.G. Wentworth could provide powerful opportunities for these students to gain real-world experience in a growing, entrepreneurial, diversified consumer financial services organization. What was less evident at that time, but was quickly realized, is the nearly immeasurable impact the presence of Cristo Rey students would have on the entire J.G. Wentworth team.
While the inaugural students rave about J.G. Wentworth’s philosophy of “treating them like an actual employee,” and giving them the opportunity to “take on the responsibilities of an actual employee” the employees, managers and senior executives are clamoring to spend time with the fresh-faced, open-eyed students, who are as full of enthusiasm as they are potential.
The result: students emerge with invaluable real world experience, a sense of pride and accomplishment, and a solid foundation of contacts for future mentorship. And J.G. Wentworth employees, managers and executives emerge with a renewed passion for learning, innovation and a culture of discovery empowered by teamwork.
Challenging ourselves to help end the challenge of hunger
J.G. Wentworth is also proud to support Philabundance, the largest regional food bank and hunger relief organization in the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley, and join them in their mission to drive hunger from our communities today, and end hunger forever.
Each year, through Company-wide challenges, employees donate more than one ton of nonperishable goods to Philabundance. Now an annual celebration to give back to our communities, contributions are matched by company executives, who donate an additional $1 for each pound of food collected.
Together, we are helping Philabundance serve the needs of more than 70,000 people in need of hunger relief.
